Nosferatu D2 – We’re Gonna Walk Around This City With Our Headphones On To Block Out The Noise
Thrashing frenetic guitars, and hectic jaw-drop drumming, with what sounds like Zed from Police Academy on vocals - this is a win, win, win situation! Tighter than an Aberdonian; if the incessant instrumentation starts to tickle your brain too much, then the lyrics will carry you through, littered with pop-culture references and sung with a resigned yelp. Broken Tamagotchi, I Killed Burt Bacharach, Mojo Top 100, turning mundane references into something altogether more meaningful and lasting is the bands trump card.
When Ben Parker snarls lines like, “Every band I ever loved has let me down eventually, the worst album will always be the last one” on A Footnote, it raises an ear-pleasing smile not least as this is Nosferatu D2’s first and last album released posthumously two years since the band split. If you feel let down however, then you’re never going to be happy, so away with you and buy some records by Turin Brakes, everybody makes mistakes after all. [Al Souter]
