David Morgan: Triple Threat

Kick-starting Triple Threat with audacious flirting and frantic stage-pacing, David Morgan's strengths and weaknesses are contained in the first few minutes of the set. Clearly an engaging performer with a story to tell, this debut show takes in tales of school bullying, a first kiss, the dislike of sport and a harrowing letter from a headmaster. Morgan races through the material with wild abandon, and my sense is that he's trying to do too much.

There is good content here, and the final piece on his headmaster's response to homosexual bullying is the most powerful segment of the show. Morgan really tells us something about himself in this section, and finally allows his audience some time and space to digest the jokes. A more sparing approach to crafting stories for the stage will allow Morgan to realise his obvious potential.

The crowd do seem to enjoy Triple Threat, and Morgan earns some genuine affection from the early afternoon audience for his tireless effort.
