Super Crazy Fun Fun

Article by John Darley | 22 Aug 2011

Awkwardly claiming through their audience to reach the stage and then discussing as to who should open the show, it feels as if Super Crazy Fun Fun were still in rehearsing stages.

When resolving the question, our two hosts Adam Belbin and Padraig Ryan spend most of their time arguing over who’s the funniest and if Harry Potter can actually be classed as a modern classic. However, they both get the chance to show off their stand-up skills, a chance for Belbin to evidence his ‘Laughing Horse New Act Of The Year Award 2011’ title. Seeing him perform with such gusto establishes his true potential to be a future festival favourite.

Unfortunately, it then all becomes somewhat of a letdown as Belbin fishes for cheap laughs, playing it safe by rekindling tedious gags relating to Josef Fritzel. As for Ryan, he seems to be a friend who’s just there for the ride, with material revolving around a recent trip to America, which results in being somewhat monotonous.

Super Crazy Fun Fun seems to resemble a successful drama class exercise that may have made the other kids in the room laugh, but shouldn’t have gone further than that.
