Joe Bor: In Search Of The Six Pack

The mysteries of sexual attraction are notoriously difficult to pin down and define. In Search of the Six-Pack is set in motion by a video montage, casting Joe Bor in the role of a street interviewer searching for a winning erotic formula. Smug and hapless members of the public fumble around for words as the comic takes to the stage with a crackling microphone and some decent musings on hairy men, weight loss, his father's alcoholism and Jewish identity.

Up against recurring technical problems and a chattering audience, Bor firmly establishes himself as a likeable, patient stage presence. The construction of the show can be a little flimsy, and the material doesn't seem consistently organised around the supposed themes of sexiness and physical fitness. Content-wise, there are plenty of refreshing ideas in this set, but there is no smooth progression from one section to the next. Poor linkage gives the show a shuddering, jerky feel.

A brilliant joke about German beer signals what Bor is capable of, and with careful structuring of promising material, he could become a distinctive comic voice.
