Robert Coyle and Andrew Gilmore: One Track Minds

Review by David King | 13 Aug 2012

As I left Fiddlers Elbow I thought "I hope I don't drop my notebook on the way home" because the first entry in my notes read "Porn ring – 7 years old".

One Track Minds is a show where you can witness the slightly shambolic, conscious-streamy polemic of one Robert Coyle (Andrew absent during my visit). I get the feeling Robert has spent many an evening down the pub trying to sort out the world with anyone who'll listen; half to make sense of it for himself and half to amuse those around him.

And so a lot of "The Big Issues" are covered – religion, sex and advertising. As many of his excited rants are off the cuff they can, by their very nature, be a little unfocused and simply lack any punchline. But we allow him this because, most importantly, he is funny, charming and astute in an enlightening kind of way. I also get the feeling that you are welcome to join in his monologue, that he would relish the chance for it to become a dialogue. Go down and give this bash...
