Drive-By Truckers - The Big To Do
In this modern age of flavour-of-the-moment music, Georgia’s Drive-By Truckers should be viewed as something of an institution, with The Big To Do marking the release of their eighth studio album, and over twelve years of garrulous white-trash storytelling. And whilst over their tenure, they may not have exactly burst beyond the borders of their native Southern rock, it’s without question that they have consistently thrilled with their shit-storming, axe-led brawling. With that said, The Big To Do finds them kicking off in a particularly raucous mood, bursting out with opener, Daddy Learned to Fly, and leading straight in to album highlight, the booze-addled, The Fourth Night of My Drinking. It’s an album which is assuredly bullied by Patterson Hood’s bravado, and delivers everything one would expect of a Truckers release, relenting only for the wonderful, Shonna Tucker penned ode, You Got Another, and the gentle plucking of penultimate track Eyes Like Glue, before signing off in thrilling style with the ferocious growling of Strutter.
