Dead Cat Bounce: Howl of the She-Leopard

How can you parody something as inherently silly as glam rock? Well, try and make it even more daft I suppose. That’s exactly what Dead Cat Bounce do here. The best comedy bands tend to be the most technically skilled and DCB are no different. In their absurd bombast they parody the excesses of the genre incredibly well, their pointless guitar solos and rambling drum fills making it all sound thoroughly authentic.

They keep the laughs coming thick and fast too with songs about animal noises, very tall women or food smugglers all taking hilariously unexpected turns. They also have plenty of irreverent tangents, including excerpts from a forthcoming comedy drumming instructional DVD or their hunt for Whitesnake. They play the role of dozy rock band to a deadpan tee, starting audience clap-alongs only to forget why or getting distracted by their own custom made trousers.

The trio have great stage presence and without their chemistry some of the weaker songs might flounder, but in truth that hardly matters here. It’s technically brilliant, satirically astute and most importantly very funny. They’ll leave you grinning and make you yearn for the days of proper cheesy stadium rock. For anyone with a penchant for musical comedy or general silliness this is a festival must see.
