Lou Sanders: And Now For A Nice Evening With Wallan
Lou Sanders is mental. In the same kind of way that the likes of Tim & Eric are mental though; it might not always make sense, but it’s an exceptionally well channelled and frequently hilarious kind of madness. This much is obvious from the moment she bounds into the room, fake legs akimbo and slipping all over the place on roller skates.
This show is Sanders attempt to create entertainment spectacular, much like you’d experience in Vegas. If that doesn’t sound particularly appealing then don’t worry, because she’s far too full of ideas to actually stick with just one for the full hour. Instead she skips merrily between characters, silly games, musical interludes and amusingly gauche videos. There’s not much time to catch your breath really, but her manic energy is incredibly contagious.
The quality of the material is similarly inconsistent. Her physical work never fails, and some of her audience participation bits and surreal tangents are inspired, but the videos and characters jar with the overall tone. Even if Sanders’ ideas do occasionally lack focus, she makes up for it with masses of charisma and stage presence. Undoubtedly a very funny woman set for a bright future. Also, she sets herself on fire at the end. It's spectacular.
