Andrew O'Neill And Marc Burrows Do Music And Comedy And Hideous Murders

Steampunk is not dead. The Men That Will Not Be Blamed For Nothing are a Victorian themed punk band half-comprised of comedians Andrew O'Neill and Marc Burrows. They promise an evening of comedy and, despite missing a couple of bandmates, music.

The concept of the band itself is an interesting one and their setlist includes songs about insane asylums, Victorian medical advice and Darwin. The first two songs are lost to PA system hiccups, but once this is sorted, we make out some fantastically silly rhymes. However, one song about a fox being thrown through a window inexplicably ends very abruptly, so there is perhaps a certain inconsistency to the music.

O'Neill and Burrows take turns to show off their stand-up. O'Neill's short set dealing with being heckled in the street is peppered with peculiar one-liners and surreal observations said in a sing-song manner. This is a bemusing but welcome addition. Burrows doesn't seem too sure of himself, which is a shame as his material is relatively strong. He tells a couple of stories about his hometown and of being young. The stand-up is a little rushed which is understandable with a strict 55 minute timeslot but it is refreshing to see a show offering a nice bit of variety.
