Now in their twenty-seventh year, the troupe are the Fringe's longest running improvised show. While the players remain fresh by undergoing regular regenerations, they are always grounded in the same training, with their late-night term-time Friday shows based on short-form improv – a technique audiences probably know best from Whose Line Is It Anyway? Despite being around since 1989, The Improverts ensure every show is unique and always full of surprises by creating games and sketches based on the audience's random suggestions

The current crop of players – including Caroline Elms, Will Hughes, Pedro Leandro and Jodie Mitchell – are bearers of a strong history. Previous alumni of recent years include acclaimed sketch group The Penny Dreadfuls, whose remarkable contribution to live comedy both as a group and as solo performers make for a hard act to follow.

But, with a strong commitment to production and tech off-stage, and their ongoing residency and comedy training, it's little wonder The Improverts continue to thrive with every new incarnation.

The Improverts is at Bedlam Theatre, Fri 30 Oct, 10:30pm; £6.
