Chris Dugdale: 2 Faced Deception
Bringing a touch of magic to the Fringe, Chris Dugdale is out to deceive you.
So then, tell us about your show?
It has been two years in development and combines technology, organic sleight of hand, humour, and raw, devious deceptions!
How are you going to keep it fresh for the full three weeks?
Every performance is different as every audience is different, so keeping it fresh for a magician is easier than it is perhaps for other artists...
Is it ultimately worth coming to the Fringe?
Ask me in September!
What was your favourite joke when you were a kid?
Q: How does Darth Vader know what he is getting for Xmas?
A: He can feel your presence
What is the best part of being a magician?
Seeing people's faces; the disbelief, and the moment that they realise that what they are seeing is ‘impossible’.
What is the process you go through when you are creating new tricks and illusions?
I am very lucky to have a great creative team behind me - you definitely need that. My consultant Phil Jay is the Godfather of magic, and has more great ideas than I will ever have.
We work backwards starting with a plot, something we would like to achieve, and then work out how that can possibly be translated into reality.
How do you think Fringe audiences will differ from US audiences?
I would imagine that the Scottish audiences are going to be highly receptive and warm, like the American audiences are. I have performed all across the United States and people differ from place to place, but overall I have high expectations of the Scots so we'll see!
What are you most looking forward to about bringing your show here?
I’m looking forward to sharing something with my audiences, the likes of which I hope they have never seen before! 2 Faced Deception is a very different kind of magic show; at times it literally blends the senses, and there are lots of surprises in the mix too.
Who else are you hoping to see while you're in Edinburgh?
Jim Jefferies and David Hasselhoff.
