Vinegar Knickers: On The Edge
This is the edgiest show at the Fringe. Or so the Knickers keep telling us. They're not sure themselves, and at one point almost sack a member of the group for not being edgy enough, even though that member has already smeared cat shit on her face (in the name of edginess).
Vinegar Knickers are a really tight sketch group with terrific chemistry and some really original ideas. We get the birth of social networking in the Old West, the story of Hitler having his heart broken by a pensioner, and the truly bizarre Female Christ sketch. It's fast as anything and you won't see a better-organised sketch team at the Fringe.
Occasionally sketches can spend a bit too long on setup with a joke or, more commonly, end without an obvious punchline. They've got almost everything else right, but the rhythm of the laughter is still a little off and it shows that these relatively new acts still have some developing to do. Not particularly edgy, but still quite sharp.
