Viggo Venn @ Underbelly Cowgate

The Life of Pepito is a fun and silly hour of clowning and cucumbers

Review by Polly Glynn | 16 Aug 2017

With the maddest of eyes and a cheeky grin, Viggo Venn invites you to join him on a goofy quest to find a ball he lost in space.

There's a touch of Borat about Venn, albeit he's dressed in a top hat and tails. His clowning gently nudges an audience into submission, making it clear for anyone to understand what he’s asking of them. Indeed, the first third of the show heavily relies on audience interaction but is never too demanding. Venn also does a good job of warming up the room, making the more surreal jokes land easier.

It’s a visual hour with lots of great sight gags – this mainly seems to involve a lot of cucumbers (they’re 96% water, don’t you know) – and his best friend, who’s a long snowman. It all has a kind of gently strange charm, in an hour that is both fun and endearing.
