Frank Ocean and Solange to headline Primavera 2017
Aphex Twin, Arcade Fire, Bon Iver, Grace Jones, Slayer, Van Morrison and The xx will also top the bill in Barcelona
While other festivals drip-feed their line-ups in the months leading up to the event, there's no such keep-'em-guessing plans here: over 200 acts have been announced to play this year's event, which takes place from Wednesday 31 May to Sunday 4 June 2017.
Beyond the nine (!) headliners emblazened atop the poster, there are also appearances from Vancouver bon vivants Japandroids, electro-pop oddballs Metronomy and hip-hop mavericks Run The Jewels, while slacker-pop poster boy Mac DeMarco, experimental turntablist Flying Lotus and Angel Olsen (whose recent album My Woman made the top ten in The Skinny's Albums of 2016 list) are also down to play.
The veteran contingent is also well represented this year: punk mainstays Descendents, Jason Lytle's reformed psych quintet Grandaddy and Scottish power-pop gentry Teenage Fanclub are on the bill. There are also unexpected but thoroughly welcome returns for Stephin Merritt's wry chamber-pop ensemble The Magnetic Fields, Toronto collective Broken Social Scene and – perhaps most surprising of all – Ian Svenonius' 'gospel yeah-yeah' set The Make-Up.
The Beach Club area is also set to expand to two stages, allowing for greater emphasis on electronic music: as such, Germany's house titan DJ Dixon, genre-bending British duo Bicep and Wolfgang Voigt’s highly influential Gas all feature on an overwhelmingly vast bill.
