Tim Burgess added to Sound City 2017 line-up
The third wave of acts to be unveiled also includes Cupids, Estrons and XamVolo
Charlatans frontman Tim Burgess has joined the bill at Liverpool's Sound City festival, performing alongside bandmate Mark Collins at the Tim Peaks Diner. The Diner is a new addition to the festival for 2017, hosting interviews, film screenings, DJs and live music, as part of Burgess' ongoing Tim Peaks project. The full Charlatans line-up will also be present to sign copies of forthcoming album Different Days. They join The Cribs, John Cale and more on a packed bill at the city's Clarence Dock.
A wealth of new talent has also been added to the bill, including Manchester-based indie quartet Cupids, Cardiff noiseniks Estrons and the hotly-tipped Formation. London psych-pop trio Yak will also appear, alongside versatile singer-songwriter John Joseph Brill, grime artist Slang and rising Taiwanese rapper Aristophanes, who teamed with Grimes on the Canadian's most recent album Art Angels.
The Northwest region is also well represented, with R'n'B maverick XamVolo, the energetic rock'n'roll of Stockport's Rory Wynne, Zuzu's infectious guitar pop and a Liverpool indie double whammy of The Sugarmen and The Jazkobins all set to play. Meanwhile, Australia's Tired Lion and Gang of Youths are also geared up for their first Sound City performances, while showcases from Leeds College of Music, POP Montreal, SESAC, and Alya Records are also in the works.
The festival's partnership with the Unsigned Music Awards will also see a full bill of international emerging talent, drawn from a record number of applicants, with Sound City's arts programme to include Chinese acrobatics, burlesque shows, a carnival collaboration between Continental Drifts and Fiesta Bombarda, and a mysterious co-commission between the festival, bluedot and the team behind the much-missed Kazimier venue.
Sound City takes place 25-28 May. Further information and ticket details can be found at liverpoolsoundcity.co.uk.
