Disney’s latest animation is an enjoyable neo-noir buddy cop comedy that will likely entertain children and adults alike thanks to a steady stream of gags and vibrant visuals.

Set in a city populated by anthropomorphic animals, the film follows Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) as she pursues her dream of becoming the first rabbit to join the police force. Quickly finding big city life to be harder than she imagined, she gets caught up in a missing person’s investigation and teams up with Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) – a charismatic and slippery fox con artist – to solve the case.

Making the most of its likeable leads and stellar voice acting, the film manages to press home its moral of not judging others based on stereotypical assumptions without sacrificing its emotional character beats. This is one children’s film adults can watch without needing the children along as an excuse.

Zootropolis screened at Glasgow Film Festival and released 25 Mar by Disney.
