Looking for Eric
Eric Bishop is a lost postman who has begun to feel that events around him are running out of control. For one, there are his unruly stepsons and on top of that a looming encounter with his ex-wife who he hasn’t seen for more than 30 years. But late one night Eric’s football idol Eric Cantona appears and offers some wise words of advice to help him get his life back on track. Looking for Eric is brilliantly scripted and adeptly manages shifts in tone between poignancy and humour. Ken Loach and Paul Laverty’s latest work blends the charm of British pub chatter with a gentle political message about the power of collective action and male friendship. And whilst the finale may seem a little far-fetched, the film is so amiable that you’ll happily go along for the ride. Feel-good Loach? Who’d have thought it?
