The winners of this year's BAFTA Scotland awards have been announced, with The Legend of Barney Thomson and '71 among the films picking up awards.

The Legend of Barney Thomson, the directorial debut of Trainspotting and The Full Monty star Robert Carlyle, won the best feature film award, with Emma Thompson winning the best film actress award for her role as Barney's mother in the black comedy.

Gregory Burke won BAFTA Scotland's writing award for his work on '71, Yann Demange's thriller which centres on a British soldier – portrayed by 2014 BAFTA Scotland nominee Jack O'Connell – attempting to return to his barracks during clashes in Belfast at the height of the Troubles.

Elsewhere, there were awards for animator Ainslie Henderson for his latest film STEMS – which also picked up the McLaren Award for Best New British Animation at this year's Edinburgh Film Festival – and an outstanding contribution award was given to veteran actor Bill Paterson, last seen alongside Brian Cox in the Lyceum Theatre's production of Waiting For Godot.
