It's Avengers v Thanos in the first Infinity War trailer

You may remember back in 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy there was some big purple guy called Thanos (played by Josh Brolin) with an Infinity Stone fetish. Well in the new Avengers movie, Avengers: Infinity War (Part I), he’s heading to Earth to complete his collection. And this time Captain America, Thor, Black Widow et al might not be strong enough to stop his rampage. “In time, you will know what it will be like to lose,” Thanos says in the first trailer for Avengers: Infinity Wars (Part I), before giving Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man a hiding.

Directed by the Russo brothers, who helmed the two most recent Captain America movies, this will see the whole Avengers gang – plus all the hangers on like Spider-Man, Doctor Strange and The Winter Soldier – come together to fight in one epic-looking battle.

In this first trailer it suggests one of the big showdowns will take place in the fictional nation of Wakanda, which we’ll be seeing more of in the imminent Black Panther movie. “Evacuate the city, engage your defences and get this man a shield,” says Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther, suggesting Captain America might be missing his signature fighting accessory.

Eagle-eyed Scottish readers should look out for some familiar looking backgrounds, as several scenes of Avengers: Infinity War (Part I) were shot in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
