Watch the trailer for "British Brokeback" God's Own Country
Francis Lee’s debut feature film – dubbed the "British Brokeback Mountain" – has its first trailer
The best British film of 2017 now has a trailer.
God’s Own Country has been causing a stir at festivals like Sundance and Berlin for its tender story of a young Yorkshire farmer, Johnny (Josh O’Connor), who’s living out a lonely life running his family’s farm single-handedly after his father’s stroke. His only respites from the daily drudge are drinking himself silly at the local pub in his village and casual sex.
Hope arrives for Johnny, however, in the form of Georghe (Alex Secareanu), a Romanian migrant worker who starts work at the farm during lambing season, and with whom Johnny begins a tentative and transformative romance.
The debut film from actor-turned-director Francis Lee, it’s a cinematic and deeply moving story of love blossoming in the hardest of places. God’s Own Country opens the 71st Edinburgh International Film Festival tomorrow (21 Jun) and opens in UK cinemas on 1 Sep via Picturehouse Entertainment. Take a look at the first trailer in the player above.
