Gin Festival

There's arguably no greater time for a refreshing gin and tonic than during the summer months, and accordingly, Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral is busy bracing itself for the UK's largest Gin Festival. With over 100 gins (including 40 new varieties) to work your way through, you'll also have the chance to sample an exclusive new gin, Tarquin's 'Single Estate Tea' gin, made especially for the festival. 28-30 Jul, The Crypt at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral, times vary, £returns only (join the waiting list here)

Liverpool Whisky Festival

The Liverpool Whisky Festival returns for its sixth year, serving up the best of whiskies from all over Scotland alongside many more from across the world.

Tickets may not come cheap (working out at £25 each), but they include entry, a Glencairn tasting glass, a bottle of water, a festival guide and all whiskies in the main hall; if you want to go for the more exclusive ‘under the counter’ drams, you’ll have to tack on an extra charge, with two tiers of tokens at £2.50 and £5. 3 Sep, Metropolitan Cathedral, 11am-8pm, £50 for two tickets

Liverpool Food and Drink Festival

Late September may not feel like summer any more (though no doubt we'll be holding out for an Indian summer after the disappointment we've had so far), but technically it's not autumn until 21 Sep, so there's just enough time to hit up Sefton Park for some Liverpool Food and Drink Festival action.

This time, said action involves a celebrity demo from Great British Bake Off's Nadiya Hussain, a dedicated 'Good Life' area for the wellbeing fanatics among you, a kids' area to keep them at bay and, of course, food and drink stalls from the likes of Ank Marvin, Dead Crafty Beer, Farm & Fork, Maray and much more. 17-18 Sep, Sefton Park, times and prices vary
