The Joe Acheson Quartet have been making mind-melting head music for a few years now, gaining massive praise in the process. With a unique sound using a mixture of samples, live cello, violin keys, bass and drums, their music is cinematic and very deep, evoking both Cinematic Orchestra and DJ Shadow in the same breath, but with a very Scottish undertone.

Joe (bass/samples), Poppy Ackroyd (violin/keyboards), Tim Lane (drums) and Jamie Graham
(drums) formed the quartet in Edinburgh in 2005. At home in clubs, festivals, classical concerts and jazz venues, the Quartet have developed an ever-expanding fan-base from a varied group of music lovers. Their unique blend of acoustic and electronic instruments (including two drummers), bespoke visuals and stage design (by Ivan Torres Hdez) and regular guest performers, has garnered their reputation as one of the most exciting live bands in Edinburgh.

The band have been busy recording their debut album with funding from The Scottish Arts Council which is due to be completed later in 2008. With three classically trained multi-instrumentalists & a fourth member who has been playing professionally since the age of 13, they have an impressive musical background and if the groundswell of support continues to build it’s likely that 2009 will see major success.

Doors 10pm, band onstage at midnight.
Tickets priced £5 (stbf) are available now from Tickets Scotland, Ripping, The Voodoo Rooms, online at www.ticketweb.co.uk or by phone on 0132 220 3234.
