NEWS FROM PRIMAVERA: KILLER MIKE & EL-P'S RUN THE JEWELS CONFIRMED FOR JUNE RELEASE
In the middle of his live set at this year's Primavera Sound, rapper Killer Mike announced that his mooted team-up with Def Jux founder and Company Flow lynchpin El-P as Run The Jewels has finished production, and will be released for free online next month, our music editor reports from the front lines.

The album will feature guest appearances by hip-hop stars such as Outkast's Big Boi and legendary De La Soul / Handsome Boy Modelling School producer Prince Paul, as well as up-and-coming producers Little Shalimar (El-P's touring guitar and keytar player) and Wilderzoby (keyboardist and co-producer on some cuts from last year's Cancer4Cure). The players involved were initially confirmed in a tweet by El-P. You can bag a free download of the first track from the project, Get It, below.

Our photographer Sonia Mallan was also in attendance at this year's festival in Barcelona, catching a selection of the most exciting acts in attendance, including Wu-Tang Clan, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Shellac, Liars, Django Django, Swans, Death Grips, Dinosaur Jr. and Fuck Buttons, among others. NEW VIDEOS: BOARDS OF CANADA, THE FLAMING LIPS & QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE: LIVE, ADULT.
The biggest buzz in the music world right now centres around the June release of the new album by reclusive Scottish electronica duo Boards of Canada. After an elliptical media campaign which saw them using clues embedded in YouTube videos and on rare-as-hen's-teeth Record Store Day vinyls, and projections of light and sound in various cities including London and Tokyo (where they played the following video last week in the Shibuya district, to a crowd of several hundred), the band have finally unveiled some of the music from their eagerly-awaited album Tomorrow's Harvest, out 10 June. Yesterday, the band tweeted this image, along with the message "May 27th 17:00 PDT." Keep your eyes on their website at midnight tonight to find out what their next revelation will be!

The Flaming Lips were in session at the BBC's Maida Vale studios recently, celebrating 30 years in the music business by performing some classic tracks from their back catalogue, and most recent album The Terror (reviewed here). We recently interviewed the band's front-man Wayne Coyne -- read the feature here. The band performed tracks such as Waiting for Superman, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots and Do You Realize? (see below), and spoke candidly to Radio 6 Music's Steve Lamacq. His interview, plus clips from the session, are available here,

Also delivering a barnstorming live session this week were Queens of the Stone Age, who played the entirety of new album ...Like Clockwork at a special gig for NPR. ADULT. have returned with their first new album since 2007's Why Bother?, releasing The Way Things Fall on Ghostly International earlier this month. The seminal duo, who were one of the key artists behind the electroclash sound, have this week unveiled their new video, for the track Idle (Second Thoughts).

NEW MUSIC: PRINCE & 3RDEYEGIRL, DISCLOSURE, EARL SWEATSHIRT, THE JET AGE OF TOMORROW, TAME IMPALA'S KEVIN PARKER, RYAN HEMSWORTH
Continuing the theme of comebacks, this month saw the release of a new video and track from Prince, showcasing his new all-female band 3rdEyeGirl. The artist formerly known as Prince, then confusingly re-branded, and now known to all as Prince once more, has been dropping the occasional track featuring the band this year, the most recent being a cover of Pearl Jam's Even Flow. This is their first video together, indicating that the His Royal Puroleness may well be gearing up for a fully-fledged comeback. Notoriously touchy about how his music is used on YouTube, Prince's camp have made the video un-embeddable, but you can watch it here, and check out that Pearl Jam cover below.

In-demand young electro tykes Disclosure have a new track out - taken from their debut album Settle, out 3 June, it features a sampled spoken vocal line, repeating the title, When A Fire Starts To Burn. Fresh from his work on Daft Punk's Random Access Memories, Nile Rodgers has also recently announced that he will collaborate with the duo on some material - one of several planned collabs Rodgers announced, including work with dubstep duo Chase & Status. 

Odd Future alum Earl Sweatshirt's new track features Mac Miller, and is more than likely to feature on his forthcoming album Doris. Also available for free download, and featuring Sweatshirt alongside Odd Future veterans Domo Genesis, Hodgy Beats, plus SKTRKT and others, is the new mixtape by The Jet Age of Tomorrow, aka Matt Martians and Hal Williams, of the Internet and Pyramid Vritra. Ryan Hemsworth's latest EP, Still Awake, is also available for free download - the Canadian DJ and producer has worked on high-profile remixes for the likes of Cat Power, Frank Ocean and Grimes, has cooked up beats for Shady Blaze and Sole among others, and has released 5 EPs and an album since 2010. Download the EP from Hemsworth's site.

And finally, despite recently telling Uncut Magazine that "making another album doesn't excite me," Tame Impala's Kevin Parker is keeping busy, finding time to compile a mixtape featuring tracks from Beck, Panda Bear, King Crimson and Can, among others, for the Modular podcast series, Modcast. UNITED FRUIT, INTERNET FOREVER & MORE ON COMPILATION FOR RAPE CRISIS CENTRES
DIY label Audio Antihero have released two charity compilations over the past couple of years, and this year their third, the wrestling-themed Regal Vs. Steamboat, is for a very worthy cause, with proceeds being donated to Rape Crisis Scotland, England and Wales. In a press release, the label's spokesman states: "Over 400,000 a women are sexual abused a year in the UK, most of us will know someone who has suffered rape or sexual abuse. This compilation is meant to be enjoyed and even has a silly pro-wrestling theme but this charity work is essential." The compilation features a solid line-up of up-and-coming bands, with contributions from Glasgow post-hardcore favourites United Fruit, and synth-pop-influenced indie rockers Internet Forever. WATCH: KONX-OM-PAX - UNDER THE BRIDGE
As well as creating innovative electronic music for labels such as Planet Mu (who released his excellent album Regional Surrealism, reviewed here), Tom Scholefield aka Konx-Om-Pax is well known as a gifted graphic designer, creating artwork for the likes of Brainfeeder and LuckyMe, and also an animator and film-maker. On his new film Under The Bridge, Scholefield shot, scored, animated, edited and designed the whole project. It was filmed in Glasgow, and tells the tale of two young men on the run from a luminescent interdimensional space being made of glowing skulls. Nice!

EDINBURGH COLLEGE: THE GREAT BIG ART SHOW
Last year, the three Edinburgh colleges - Stevenson, Telford and Jewel and Esk - joined together to become Edinburgh College, like some kind of educational Megatron. Now the three colleges have pooled their talent and resources to present their annual Great Big Art Show, featuring work from students on the Contemporary Art, Photography, Textiles and Theatre Costume courses.

Neil Manning, Programme Area Leader for Art and Design at Edinburgh College, commented: "At this year’s Great Big Art Show, guests can expect to see displays bursting with talent from a variety of our artistic students. This year’s students will move on to degree programmes across the UK and on to HN and specialist subjects. Their progression routes will show people interested in the creative industries just what they can achieve with a qualification at the College.” The Great Big Art Show runs from 7-13 June across the three campuses. WHITE LABEL: A LOOK INSIDE UK VINYL CULTURE
This new documentary, entitled White Label, was put together by Bristol-based film-maker Alexander Macdonald, and features interviews with representatives from Brighton's Well Rounded Records, Henry Bainbridge of Bristol's Dub Studio, and Chirs Farrel of Bristol record shop and label Idle Hands. They discuss the enduring appeal and increasing commercial viability of vinyl releases. Watch the documentary in full below. 

WATCH: RARE FOOTAGE OF THE SMITHS, LIVE IN 1988
And finally, rare live footage of The Smiths, who reformed in 1988 to play a special gig at Wolverhampton Civic Hall following the departure of guitarist Johnny Marr in 1987. The footage, first reported by the NME, shows the concert in its entirety. The setlist includes Morrisey tracks such as Last Of The Famous International Playboys, alongside Smiths classics Stop Me If You Think You’ve Heard This One Before and Sweet And Tender Hooligan.
