First events announced for Glasgow Film Festival 2015
Glasgow Film Festival have unveiled the first glimpses of the 2015 programme, with a mini-festival of online cat videos and a unique film and music night featuring eagleowl and British Sea Power leading the line-up.
A Night at the Regal will celebrate the cinematic legacy of what is now the O2 ABC, with Brighton indie rockers British Sea Power performing their live score for the Penny Woolcock documentary From the Sea to the Land Beyond for the first time in Scotland. Lost Map duo Monoganon and eagleowl will also perform at the event at the O2 ABC on 19 Feb, with Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard presenting their new film EDIT with a live accompaniment from Joe McAlinden.
The Internet Cat Video Festival will make its UK premiere at GFF on the weekend of 21 and 22 Feb at GOMA. The Festival, programmed by the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, is described as an “offline, social celebration of online cat videos.”
Other one-off events for GFF events include a screening of Baz Luhrmann’s Strictly Ballroom at ‘Kelvingroove’ Art Gallery, and three events celebrating icons of silent cinema – screenings of The Adventures of Prince Achmed and The Fall of the House of Usher complete with new live scores, and a Paul Merton-led look at the career of Buster Keaton.
Last year’s GFF line-up featured the UK premiere of Wes Anderson’s Grand Budapest Hotel and screenings of Under the Skin – our film writers' favourite of 2014 – as well as Starred Up, named best film at last month's BAFTA Scotland awards.
The full GFF 2015 programme is out on 21 Jan; the festival runs from 18 Feb-1 Mar at venues across the city.
