BAFTA New Talent Scotland - winners announced
The winners of this year's BAFTA New Talent Scotland Awards were unveiled tonight at a ceremony in Glasgow. The awards, which recognise achievement and potential in young and emerging filmmakers working in Scotland, were presented by broadcaster Muriel Gray, celebrating innovative new work in Scottish film, television and games. "Once again it was a pleasure to host the British Academy Scotland New Talent Awards," commented Gray. "As always, the talent shown here tonight has been incredible I wish all winners the best in their future careers."
A judging panel of more than 50 industry insiders examined the shortlisted works, selecting winners from three nominated films in each category. The prize for best Acting Performance went to Julie Speers, for her role in Wyld. The prize for best Animation went to Ross Hogg, for his film Spectators. In the Comedy and Entertainment category, Ruth Gallacher and Andy Lockhart shared the prize for their work on Fistpunch. The prize for best Editor went to Conor Meechan for The Groundsman, which was also awarded the overall prize for best Fiction film. Best Factual film went to Finding Family, by Carol Cooke, Garret Tankosic Kelly, Chris Leslie, and Oggi Tomic.
The winner in the best Game category was Futuro's Lub Vs Dub, while the prize for best Original Music went to Jessica Jones, for her score for Hannah. Michael Crumley, the scriptwriter on Hannah, also took home the prize for best Writer. Best Production Design went to Ailsa Williams for Hello From Earth. The hotly-contested overall prize for Best New Work was awarded to the team behind the documentary Finding Family.
