The Phantom Band announce new album 'Fears Trending'
The Phantom Band are set to release their second album in the space of just seven months, announcing today that a new LP titled Fears Trending is due in January 2015.
The new album from the Glasgow-based sextet comes hot on the heels of Strange Friend, their third full-length LP and first since 2010, with five of the seven tracks on Fears Trending taken from the recording sessions for Strange Friend. In case you’re wondering, yes – Fears Trending is an anagram of Strange Friend. The new album's artwork is pictured below.
Speaking to The Skinny in a new interview you can read in our forthcoming December issue, Rick Anthony said of Strange Friend: "I suppose we were keen to keep the record quite short (for us) and straight to the point but almost everything we recorded had it's charms. Strange Friend was just a particular collection that worked well together but there were songs left off that were some peoples favourites and there were sequences right up until the last minute that had the other tracks included." Guitarist Duncan Marquiss added: "We really liked a lot of the songs that didn't make it onto Strange Friend, but the ones that did make it in seemed to have an affinity with one another."
One thing seems pretty certain – Fears... will be a somewhat darker set of tracks than ...Friend, with Marquiss remarking: “Maybe it's the evil twin of Strange Friend.” The Phantom Band headlined our night at this year’s Pleasance Sessions in Edinburgh, as well as topping the bill at Strange Behaviours in Stirling, and they play gigs in Aberdeen and Glasgow next month before more shows in February following the release of the new album.
Fears Trending is out on 26 Jan via Chemikal Underground.
