Hayseed Dixie @ The Liquid Room

The speed and accuracy with which their fingers burnt across the frets was spectacle enough in itself

Four rednecks, a host of string instruments, a whole lotta amazing cover versions given the Bluegrass treatment, and some of the funniest onstage banter you'll hear this side of the festival, all combined to make this show unforgettable. The speed and accuracy with which their fingers burnt across the frets was spectacle enough in itself, and the extended guitar, banjo and violin solos continually left the crowd in awe. Breaking into the chorus from a well-known AC/DC or Queen track then sent bodies bashing into each other. All topped off by one of the best ever concert closers – the theme from Deliverance - played with duelling guitar and banjo, again at breakneck speed. While they've now been doing this a while it's clearly what they love; drinking, cursing and joking along with the crowd all the way. Joyously politically incorrect and infectiously fun, everyone should see Hayseed Dixie at least once. [Xavier Toby]
