Sky Larkin @ Classic Grand, 6 Oct
It's always a right pain in the tits when something doesn't work out the way you want it to - and it's even more excruciating to watch. Tonight, Leeds trio Sky Larkin have to battle with mysteriously ramshackle guitars, the annihilation of about 100 quid's worth of drumsticks and, to top it all off, a general front of house sound that appears to be filtered through a swamp. To be fair, the band try their best to make light of these impromptu hindrances, but never really recover; wading through awkward stage patter and eventually having to cut the set short. There is, however, a charm to the bulk of Sky Larkin's material that shines through regardless, with Antibodies in particular breathing some much needed life into the set. It would be unfair to blame the band for what is largely bad luck, but that doesn't make this any less disappointing.
