Explosive dancefloor bombs hewn from a deceptively simplistic back-bone of drums and bass

This NY four-piece's Glasgow date signals the mid-point of their biggest UK tour since releasing second album, Pieces of the People We Love, last September. Labelled godfathers of the much hyped nu-rave scene, they attract a youthful crowd of likely NME-followers, now familiar with their follow-up to the DFA-produced Echoes.

A slicker account of themselves, Pieces… still highlights their passion for creating explosive dancefloor bombs hewn from a deceptively simplistic backbone of drums and bass: elements seemingly ever more apparent in the Rapture's live performance. Vito Roccoforte's vast wave of danceable rhythms combine superbly with the deliciously thick, reach-out-and-touch basslines of Matt Safer – standing still is not an option.

The polish and ease with which they deliver such career-spanning tracks as Out Of The Races, The Devil, I Need Ur Love and Olio demonstrates the benefits of a heavy touring schedule and the key role that obvious, natural chemistry between members plays in solidifying a band's sound. [Colin Chapman]
