LILURA – Darkest Desire (Track Premiere)
Listen to the new single from Nairn electro-pop songwriter LILURA
LILURA, real name Jemma Tweedie, hails from the small seaside town of Nairn just outside of Inverness. She's set to release her dark electro-pop fuelled new single Darkest Desire, co-written by Dan Richards – best known for his work with One Direction – on 17 Nov. Needless to say, LILURA is one to watch.
The Skinny are thrilled to be premiering new track Darkest Desire, which you can listen to in the Soundcloud player below. Of the single Tweedie tells us: "Darkest Desire is one of my favourite tracks I've ever written. It's the first thing to be released out of all the stuff I've been working on in LA and I'm so proud of it! I wrote it back in March when visiting Compton and wanted to create something that was quite eerie and dark but still full of energy. I feel like it is a great introduction to LILURA and the persona surrounding that kind of vibe.
"It's a twisted song about infatuation that gives a hint of desperation acknowledging 'We both know I'm bad news but I can be whatever you want me to be, come with me, I need you!' – I was inspired by that weird needy feeling you get sometimes. You know, one minute you're like 'OMG I need you in my life, look how amazing we could be together' and the next you're all 'I'm stronger than that, I don't need anyone around, I've got my own little messed up life and I love it!'
"The aim was for it to sound quite sultry and passionate but also painful, slightly aggressive, and as erratic as my thoughts. I've been told I can be scarily focused on things when I decide what I want and took inspiration from that too. I wanted to leave the listener intrigued and disturbed like they had been sucked in by this fierce new situation that they couldn't get away from and had to get more of.
"Recently I've been listening to such a variety of genres but I would say this was influenced by artists such as BANKS, Tove Lo, and Radiohead. I feel like they are all artists who aren't afraid of creating things that are 'out of the norm' and as a result have some really honest, interesting work that you can't help but be drawn to. I'm really excited for the world to hear this track and I'm sure there will be plenty more to come in the New Year too."
