Ibibio Sound Machine confirmed for Africa Oyé 2015
London-based Ibibio Sound Machine have been confirmed for the 23rd edition of Liverpool's Africa Oyé festival, taking place this June in the city's Sefton Park.
Ibibio, who blend highlife, disco and post-punk to create a uniquely psychedelic form of soul music, join Malian collective BKO Quintet, Reunion Island creole group Lindigo, and Stevie Wonder collaborator and UK neo-soul pioneer Omar as the first names announced for the free festival, taking place in Sefton Park from 20-21 Jun.
The 2015 edition of the festival will also see the return of Oyé Village, with its usual array of world foods, DJs, dance classes and more besides. Last year's edition of the festival, which featured Cuban fusion nine-piece Wara, Malagasy dance band HAJAmadagascar & The Groovy People, and Damon Albarn-affiliated Jupiter & Okwess International among a host of others, drew crowds of over 70,000 people to Sefton Park.
