Chvrches share new track 'Get Away'
Glasgow synth trio Chvrches have unveiled a brand-new track as part of a BBC project to produce an alternative score for Ryan Gosling thriller Drive.
Get Away got its premiere last night on Zane Lowe’s show on Radio One. The new track is part of a new 'alternative soundtrack' for the violent and atmospheric chase thriller, curated by Lowe.
Drive, directed by Nicholas Winding Refn and starring Gosling and Carey Mulligan, was released three years ago to rave reviews, with the soundtrack in particular coming in for praise. The Skinny gave the “near perfect retro-classic” a five-star review in September 2011, and named the film’s soundtrack as the best of the year.
All of that begs the question – if you're going to 're-score' a film, why pick one with a cult following based largely on its soundtrack? It's a bit of an odd move, but we do get a new Chvrches track as well as new material from Jon Hopkins, Foals and others, so Zane Lowe and co might just get away with it. We can't work out what bands we'd need to hear to justify the publicity snaps of Lowe acting as a stand-in for Gosling, though.
Radio 1 Rescores: Drive – a broadcast of Drive with new music from Chvrches, Jon Hopkins and more – will be shown on BBC Three on Thu 30 Oct at 10pm. Chvrches play the Liverpool Music Week closing party on 1 Nov, Glasgow Barrowland on 3 and 4 Nov, Edinburgh Corn Exchange on 5 Nov, and Manchester Academy on 6 Nov.
