Fugazi's Ian Mackaye set for Restless Natives Q&A

Feature by News Team | 11 Apr 2016

Minor Threat and Fugazi legend Ian Mackaye will take part in an exclusive Q&A session at the inaugural Restless Natives festival in Glasgow next month.

Following a screening of Jem Cohen's Fugazi documentary Instrument at the African and Caribbean Centre, Mackaye will field audience questions live via Skype from Washington D.C.

Mackaye formed seminal hardcore band Minor Threat in 1980, before going on to found post-hardcore legends Fugazi in 1987. Mackaye is also responsible for highly influential independent label Dischord Records, which he co-founded with Minor Threat drummer Jeff Nelson. Introducing the screening and Q&A, Restless Natives' Chris Cusack said: "Given Ian's decades of experience within the DIY community in Washington D.C and his role (both via his bands and the Dischord label) as an inspiration for thousands of purveyors of independent music and art, he is the perfect participant in an event looking to strengthen the fortunes of those communities within our own country."

Mackaye joins an eclectic line-up for Restless Natives, which features gigs from Wu-Tang Clan's Ghostface Killah, agit rock outfit Future of the Left, Canadian electronic composer Tim Hecker, emo mainstay Evan Thomas Weiss's Into It. Over It. project and Lost Map's grunge-pop duo Tuff Love. The Restless Natives film line-up features screenings of Couple in a Hole – followed by a Q&A with BEAK> duo Geoff Barrow and Billy Fuller – documentary The Ambiguity Of David Thomas Broughton, cult classic The Room, and Blood, Sweat and Vinyl: DIY in the 21st Century, featuring contributions from Neurosis, ISIS and Godspeed You! Black Emperor

Instrument screens at the African and Caribbean Centre on 12 May at 7.30pm; tickets are available via the Restless Natives website. Win tickets to a Restless Natives screening of your choice in our competition.
