On Tour: Future Islands, The Amazing Snakeheads
Following the viral explosion that followed their appearance on the Letterman show – with singer Samuel Herring emoting like a pro and dancing like your slightly weird uncle hitting up the karaoke after one too many shandys – Baltimore synth-pop band Future Islands are preparing to tour the UK, in support of their new album Singles. Previously confirmed for dates in London, and a show at Manchester's Sound Control on 8 May, which are already sold out, the band have added 5 new dates to their tour.
They will be visiting the Brudenell Social Club in Leeds (3 Jun), SWG3 in Glasgow (4 Jun), the Kazimier in Liverpool (5 Jun), and the Concorde 2 in Brighton (7 Jun), before appearing at the Field Day Festival (7-8 Jun). Here's that Letterman appearance again – we at The Skinny fully applaud Herring's gutsy performance and bold fashion choices. The guy is clearly a hero. Also on tour in the coming months are Glasgow feral garage blues rockers The Amazing Snakeheads, known for the sheer intensity of their live shows. We've spoken to the band for our forthcoming issue - read all about it in April. In the interview, the band's Dale Barclay comments on their incendiary live reputation, saying: "There’s nowhere we’d rather be than on the stage. When it works – when everything clicks – and you get that feeling, it’s fucking powerful. That’s what music can do. What other people make of it, who fucking knows. If you dig it, great, if you don’t, that’s fine as well because we’re having a fucking whale of a time anyway."
Their debut album Amphetamine Ballads is out on 14 April. The band play twice at Glasgow's Broadcast (28 Mar, 25 April), Edinburgh's Sneaky Pete's (30 Mar), the Roadhouse in Manchester (2 Apr), and other dates throughout the UK, before they appear at Liverpool Sound City (1-3 May).
