Listen to an exclusive premiere of Mogwai guitarist John Cummings’ remix of ‘The Upsetter’, the new single from Metronomy.

‘The Upsetter’ is taken from Metronomy’s fourth LP Love Letters, released earlier this year. Cummings’ reworking of the track sees it transform from a melodic lo-fi ballad into a slow-burning instrumental packed with atmospheric synths.

Speaking of his interpretation, Cummings succinctly remarks: "It's quite different, no singing but it soars a wee bit. Pretty sure it's the same chords. Hopefully it sounds loud."Listen to the Mogwai man's take on the track in the player below.

The unveiling of the new single comes as Metronomy gear up for their biggest headline gigs to date next month. Joseph Mount and co play the Glasgow O2 Academy on 4 Dec, the Alexandra Palace in London on 5 Dec, and Manchester’s Albert Hall on 6 Dec.

Mogwai meanwhile release Music Industry 3. Fitness Industry 1., an EP of previously-unreleased tracks and remixes of tracks from their acclaimed LP Rave Tapes, on 1 Dec.

‘The Upsetter’ is out on 15 Dec, via Because Music; the band have also released a forest-set video for the studio version of the new single – watch the clip below.
