TRASHCLUB – Phantom Impression: Track Premiere
Listen to Phantom Impression by L.A. band TRASHCLUB
Evan Andree and Travis Bunn never expected to form TRASHCLUB. The two met by chance in Los Angeles, where they’d separately relocated – Bunn from Arizona; Andree from Atlanta – to try their hand at songwriting and producing. The two hit it off instantly, ended up playing each other some tracks they were working on, and decided to link up the following week to make some music together.
The duo’s partnership is now in full swing with TRASHCLUB, a garage-inspired dance-rock venture featuring Andree on vocals & guitar and Bunn on drums, percussion and backing vocals. Sharing production duties, they’ve churned out more than a half-dozen tracks, the first of which, disco-punk anthem Outta My Head, was recently featured on Showtime’s Shameless.
TRASHCLUB’s new debut EP Black Out, due for release on 10 Mar via Position Music, showcases seven strident, hook-heavy rock & roll tracks that play as one hell of a soundtrack to young, reckless and freewheeling city life.
Listen to an exclusive stream of Phantom Impression in the player below, ahead of the EP’s release. Of the song Bunn says: “Phantom Impression is mostly about disillusionment, and how you feel when you realise someone – or something – isn't as good as you thought... it's natural to get attached to shitty people and older modes of thought that you cling to as long as possible, but eventually you need to abandon them or else you're left holding onto something that isn't there anymore.
"We wrote the music first, and it started with a darker vibe than the other songs we had written for the project," Bunn continues. "So we had more room to play around with some fun, psychedelic shit. I was trying to put phasers on everything when we were mixing it. Thankfully those didn't make it onto the final cut. The tambourine track will probably go unnoticed for most listeners but that shit took finesse – we probably did like five takes before we figured out how to hit it just right with a kitchen towel."
Andree adds: “For me [Phantom Impression] is just about writing a simple song, but letting some weird trippy parts show through. The two bridges are the shining moments for me. Fun, weird stuff. Let your freak flag fly.”
