We See Lights – Twee Love Pop EP
If the title of this EP doesn’t shout “SCHMINDIE!” loud enough for you, how about a song called Hope You Like The Smiths? Edinburgh’s We See Lights, however, don’t belong in the ‘weedy jangle-pop’ category that such signifiers bring to mind. This is instead a handful of gentle indie-folk numbers, featuring delicately arranged acoustic guitar, fiddle, banjo and glockenspiel.
The tempo ranges from the introspective melancholy of Lovers to the irrepressibly jaunty opener My Oh My Oh My, but there is a clearly-defined lyricism underpinning the whole. While the EP’s heartfelt embrace could feel cloying and mawkish to some, there is an undeniable warmth and affection to these songs that will win over plenty of others. [Sam Wiseman]
