Since their beginnings in 1990, Calexico have almost silently gained a reputation as the favourite love child of alternative folk. Their forthcoming studio album Carried to Dust is the follow up to 2006’s Garden Ruin, and will leave lovers of this clever duo wholly satisfied. A diverse listen, Carried to Dust partners country undertones with smooth Latin sounds and blissful acoustic melodies. Produced by Nick Luca (of Iron & Wine and Neko Case fame) this is an LP of well constructed collaborations. To this end, the album includes guest appearances from Iron & Wine’s Sam Beam and well known folk performer Pieta Brown. But to define Carried to Dust: it’s simply alternative country folk, partnered with a jazzy Latin American type of indie rock, right? It could be said that Calexico are impossible to confine to general terms that are so easily settled in. They're simply poets who make beautiful music, and this is no exception to that rule.
