Cameron Watt should be designated a National Treasure. Even in a country so ludicrously teaming with musical talent, Watt's single-minded devotion to the DIY lo-fi aesthetic should earn him a knighthood. These latest releases are effectively a double-album of gameboy/Spectrum 128k-style compositions, and include the dischordant OCTOPUS Take 2, The Go! Team cheerfulness of Leaf Style Team 2, the cheeky Diana Ross cover Can't Hurry Love, and the Gorrillaz/Blur backing track Milk Milk Lemonade', and it's all so lovingly encoded that they'll make those old enough wistful for the cassette-tape video games of the computer Stone Age. To say that Enfant Bastard is trying to challenge his listeners makes the assumption that he actually gives a fuck what they think; rather than treating us mean to keep us keen though, he is -like the most fervent gamer- indulging in his own solipsistic flights of fancy. Luckily for us, he's pretty damn good at it.
