The Ocean Party – Restless
Restless has the kind of chiming guitar lines you last heard on a Chills album, and the vocals are high enough in the mix to tell you THIS IS A POP ALBUM by a band who you know rate The Go Betweens pretty damn highly. If you’re one of the apparent hordes looking to flee the UK post-Brexit to somewhere hot, then it might be that The Ocean Party’s eighth album (but the first to be released outside their native Australia) is the perfect soundtrack to your new life. This is an album designed to be played in a car, in the sun, as you drive along a clifftop overlooking some goddamn amazing view. Your new life, post-Brexit, in other words.
The Ocean Party abide by the rule of the perfect single and no song here comes in at more than three and a half minutes long. Nothing outstays its welcome. If you rate the likes of Eliza and the Bear and need a new band to love, The Ocean Party is it.
