David Morgan: Pretty

Having the crowd in fits before the show has even begun is a pretty solid start. Making light of his bijou Underbelly room, Morgan has a giggle and a chinwag with us as it quickly fills up. He’s extremely likeable and wickedly funny when he’s just riffing off of the audience; the stage seems like home.

Pretty is a playful journey through Morgan’s own bodily neuroses to self-acceptance, with bags of heartfelt interaction and a smattering of well-placed visual aids. His flair for forging instant rapport gives him the whole room to work with, and everyone is happy to join in. It has a real ‘round at a mate's house’ vibe, which makes the subject matter all the more brilliant. He departs from his material regularly to talk to the audience, yet he never loses his place – the ability to change gears so slickly is impressive.

It’s the sort of show you’ll watch with a permanent grin, as there’s little let-up between the big laughs. It’s really good conversational fun and it flows effortlessly; he’s a natural comic, and it’s a pleasure to watch.
