East End Cabaret: The Revolution will be Sexual @ The Counting House
Vive la revolution!
"Manly men this way, and musical people that way!" An usher separates people right and left. This distinction is not enough for some people; especially men who want to be manly and macho (not in the 'Village People' sense). Anyhow, here, left is equivalent to 'musical people'. A half-man, half-woman with an accordion in tow greets people with a compliment and a smile.
Once everyone is seated and comfortable, Bernadette Byrne steps on stage and introduces her 'personal freak' Victor/Victoria. Bernadette claims to understand that the audience has trouble with discussing sexual issues in public, and so decides to share a little (perhaps a little too much?) with a song, which is both hilarious and slightly disturbing. The performers prove to be surprisingly versatile, both in singing and Victor/Victoria in alternating between instruments.
They keep the audience laughing uproariously with their wit and stun with their singing, as well as their own versions of a few famous songs, namely 'Your Sex is on Fire'. Also, be prepared to interact with these two mysterious creatures of the night, and do not be afraid to stand up and dance. After a while, you will crave it. Besides, it is a revolution and, according to Emma Goldman, "a revolution without dancing is not a revolution worth having."
