Liverpool Psych Fest presents yet another mind-melting two days of psychedelic music from across the genres. The legendary slowcore psych of veterans Spiritualized, the thudding industrial techno of Factory Floor and the protopunk-tinged motorik of Hookworms are among the names atop the bill, but as ever there's plenty to explore elsewhere – not least a showcase from Chicago label Sacred Bones, which you can read more on here. |

3. THEATRE | Flow Festival

After a hugely successful first year, Flow Salford returns across multiple venues, including The Lowry, The King's Arms, First Chop Brewing Arm and the Salford Arts Theatre, to again provide a stage for the city's emerging theatrical and comedy talent. Highlights include dark comedy duo Nathan Birkinshaw (pictured) and Matthew Pearce – aka Matt and Nath. Ransack, meanwhile, will be at First Chop to present Enveloped in Velvet, which explores the modern struggle between how we’re conditioned to feel and how we actually feel. |

Legendary New York no wavers ESG might not have reached wider acclaim in the way that Blondie or Talking Heads did, but the 1979-formed group have influenced many over their 35 year career. Hugely sampled, 90s hip-hop staples like Wu-Tang Clan and Beastie Boys are among many to use the group's funk-filled beats – you have only to look at tonight's support, The Skinny favourites Golden Teacher, to see their ongoing influence. You're not too late to catch a few of September's other remaining gig highlights. |

5. ART | Domestic II

Domestic II sees Manchester’s roaming promoter Word of Warning renew its relationship with social housing association The Guinness Partnership to transform a Salford tower block – mid-renovation – into a venue for theatre, storytelling and performance. Writers including Louise Wallwein and Cheryl Martin share intimate tales amid the stripped-out apartment building over three nights, while a group art exhibition attempts to peel back the layers to expose our social foundations. |

6. ART | Art Battle
AWOL Studios, Manchester. Sat 26 Sep, 7pm, £10 here
Returning for its fifth instalment, Art Battle offers street artists a chance to get involved for the first time after finally finding a venue willing to allow the use of spray cans. The rules remain the same: ten artists have 30 minutes to create a finished piece in front of an audience, with some of the participants announced to 'compete' including US tattooist Loren Fetterman, Manchester-based illustrator David Gee and artist Carlotta Allum. |

7. CLUBS | Meine Nacht: Drei

Coming down from Glasgow for the latest Meine Nacht is the quietly exciting new prospect on Dixon Avenue Basement Jams, Denis Sulta. Gaining a strong level support, with Jackmaster, Skream, Dark Sky and Optimo are all fans of the house producer, while Boiler Room and Fabric have also come calling — Sulta providing a mix online for the latter earlier this year. The ever reliable Lord of the Tings get ready to welcome another fresh intake of students with Rinse FM legend Sir Spyro going up against Local Action MC Jammz in a dirty double header. Spyro has been on Rinse FM for the best part of ten years, his weekly Grime Show still a go to for everything new from the grime scene. Expect some of the best in rap, dancehall, garage and UK funk alongside him courtesy of the 'Tings residents. |

9. FOOD AND DRINK | Ottolenghi + Scully

Two of the UK's most creative chefs, Yotam Ottolenghi and Ramael Scully, come to Manchester to celebrate the release of NOPI, the book behind their ground-breaking London restaurant of the same name, which mixes Yotam's Middle Eastern flavours with Ramael's Asian culinary heritage. Alongside the book, expect chat about a shared passion for travel, family and great food, as well as demonstrations of some of their delicious recipes. |

10. MUSIC | Oneirogen + Moon Zero

Two artists from respected jazz and avant-garde label Denovali Records come to Liverpool tonight. Oneirogen – the moniker of Mario Diaz de Leon – is fresh from a residency at The Stone in New York, and his cinematic synthesised sprawl is coupled by Moon Zero’s maximalist drone. We’re also excited for Dawn Ray’d, featuring members of the much missed Liverpool screamos We Came Out Like Tigers — read an interview with their old band here. |
