Summer is right around the corner and we couldn't be more excited, but April showers still make the perfect weather for something sombre. To celebrate the 4K rerelease of Ratcatcher, Glasgow Film Theatre have named Scotland's own Lynne Ramsay their CineMaster for the month - Make sure you catch their retrospective screenings of Ramsay's Movern Callar, We Need To Talk About Kevin, You Were Never Really Here, and of course, her compelling portrait of 1970s Glasgow, Ratcatcher.

And if you find yourself in need of a guide, Lynne Ramsay's filmography is the subject of the newest episode of the Cineskinny podcast.

Alchemy Film and Moving Image Festival 2024

Hawick, Scottish Borders. 2-5 May

The UK’s festival of experimental film and artists’ moving image celebrates its fourteenth edition with a brazen, double-down commitment to the social warmth, political solidarity and inimitable energy for which it’s known. Unfolding over four days of screenings, exhibitions and live performances, Alchemy is the daring, dynamic gem of Scotland’s film festival calendar: an event that’s somehow hip without being exclusive, and as abundant with critically razor-sharp cinema as it is sincere in its community spirit.

This is Memorial Device

Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh. 3-6 Apr
Aberdeen Performing Arts, Aberdeen. 18-20 Apr

Playwright Graham Eatough has adapted David Keenan's hallucinatory book revolving around a fictional post-punk band in the Airdrie music scene of the 80s. Catch this Fringe First winner at Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh, and Aberdeen Performing Arts.

Clarinda Tse 雍記 - womb gloop

CCA, Glasgow. 6 Apr

For a highly textural performance piece, see the third and final part of experimental artist Clarinda Tse's womb gloop series. "Toes" explores ecology and posthumanism, using materials such as foraged seaweed and repurposed plastic packaging.

Marjolein Robertson: Marj

The Stand, Glasgow. 8 Apr

For stand-up from the Shetland isles, and some surreal storytelling about selkies, see Marojolein Robertson bring her critically acclaimed hour Marj to the Stand Comedy Club in Glasgow, hot off the heels of a sold-out run last Edinburgh Fringe.

Beans

Summerhall, Edinburgh. 17 Apr

Beans, founding member of alternative NYC hip-hop trio Antipop Consortium, comes to Edinburgh. Having shared a stage with Radiohead, the rapper's sure to blow the roof off Summerhall's Old Lab. Support from Glasgow-based singer-songwriter/poet 77.
