The Hidden Lane Gallery opened in November 2009 in a former hearse and limousine garage of the local funeral undertakers, set up by Joe Mulholland – who developed the Hidden Lane Complex to provide workspace for artists, designers and musicians. Inside, the space is beautifully lit with classic furnishings, with wooden floorboards, white-washed walls not to mention a beautiful Victorian banister; all done tastefully enough not to distract from the work.
They house several exhibitions a year, staying in the general theme of paintings, prints, photographs, etchings and drawings in a variety of showcases that focus both on foreign lands and Glasgow itself. For example, The ‘Images of Glasgow’ exhibition gathered together a hundred images of Glasgow by artists, either citizens or visitors, who had depicted the changing face of the city over the last four decades. Additionally, prints of exhibition pieces are available to buy in The Hidden Lane Gallery shop, alongside books, catalogues, posters and cards.
