Almost Famous Manchester

Also housed upstairs in an apartment-style building in the Northern Quarter, Almost Famous's newer Manchester residence in the Great Northern is an altogether more polished affair. Known for paving the way in the ‘dirty food’ trend, there's no denying Almost Famous make the kind of burgers usually only found on an episode of Man V Food. Their menu promises burgers made from 100% freshly ground beef — packed with all sorts of accompaniments including their famous sauces, chillis, and usually a couple more varieties of meat — as well as booze, fries topped with cheese, sauce and MORE meat, and “crack wings”. It’s not the best place to visit if you lead a more vegetarian lifestyle, but otherwise, it's a fairly crowd-pleasing joint. Just remember, there's a 'no bookings' policy, so turn up before you're hungry, because as one of the best burger restaurants in Manchester, it always gets busy. [Charlotte Davies]
