Is everyone sitting comfortably? Then we'll begin...

If you're assigned the task of telling the story of The Sccottish Storytelling Centre - the world's first purpose built centre for live storytelling, headquarters of the Scottish storytelling network and hive of raconteurs from far and wide - there's more than a little pressure to do it right. After all, how often is it that a building exists solely for the purpose of storytime alone?

The magical venue includes the historic John Knox house, the 99 seat Netherbow Theatre, the George Mackay Brown Library, and a storytelling cafe. It is home to materials dedicated to Scotland's rich oral culture, and seeks to promote storytelling as a contemporary artform.

Heavily involved with the festival, it hosts a yearly programme for adults and children alike - including music, dance, theatre, visual arts as well as workshops and training events.

The Scottish storytelling network, who take their home in the centre is made up of over 250 members, and comprises professional storytellers, storytelling practitioners and amateur raconteurs interested in cultivating their storytelling skillsets. There's always opportunity to participate and hone your own yarn-spinning skills, so check out the website if you're interested in getting involved.
