Based in the historic Old College, the Talbot Rice Gallery takes its name from David Talbot Rice, a former Professor of Fine Art at the University of Edinburgh.
Established in 1975, it is one of Scotland’s leading contemporary public art galleries. It comprises of two distinct exhibition spaces, one of which is the White Gallery, which presents a regularly updated programme of both contemporary Scottish and international artists. The second is the Georgian Gallery, an airy, neoclassical room with impressive internal architecture, which was originally designed by by William Playfair as a natural history museum. If you're interested in your seventeenth century Dutch bronzes (and let's face it, who isn't), head to the upper level of the gallery to check out The University Torrie Collection.
The Gallery also runs special events including lectures, tours, performances and workshops that complement the exhibitions. And we've saved the best bit until last - admission is completely free. [Kate Pasola]
