To give you an idea of how successful Ubiquitous Chip’s warm, high-end formula is, consider this – Ashton Lane’s most celebrated grubbery is currently seeing out its third global recession, a feat nothing short of miraculous in an industry as volatile as the Baring Sea. It’s gone so well in fact that they’ve even opened up two sister restaurants – Stravaigan and Stravaigan 2, each with their own unique character.
Currently The Chip houses a restaurant, and three individual bars including a rooftop terrace. Although different from season to season, the menu draws much of its inspiration from Scottish cuisine, a concept that would have been laughed out of the figurative building in the 70s. Try the haggis, neeps and tatties for starters – an original recipe since 1971, and winner of various awards. The gorgeous interiors, replete with hand-painted murals, are also a great spot for a drink. There’s three different bars, featuring Furstenberg on tap, an intimidating wine list, and at least one lazy bar-dwelling dog. As for the name, we're not entirely sure, but it sure sounds better than ‘The Inescapable Chip’ – a harrowing thought!
