The Deaf Institute is a venue located just off Oxford Road and is split over three floors, with most of the fun happening upstairs in the converted theatrical ballroom. Bedecked in kitsch wallpaper and pleasingly odd decorations, The Deaf Institute is hugely popular thanks to its corresponding range of club nights as well as a heavily booked calendar of widely-known and local bands. By day (between 4pm and 10pm) The Deaf Institute's main bar and kitchen dishes up hearty main meals at student friendly prices. The menu changes regularly, with burgers being their current food of choice, and as it's a Trof owned venue you know every item on the menu will be incredible. The bar's sweet shop inspired cocktails are also worth sampling, but if they're not your thing there's always a fine choice of craft ales.

At night there's almost always something on in the music hall upstairs, be that their frequent and often busy club nights — covering a range of genres from hip hop to indie, electro to rock 'n roll — or rising talent on tour. The venue has seen many big names play in the music hall in their early days such as Warpaint, The xx and The War On Drugs and the venue can accomodate everyone with seating and balcony areas. There's also a smaller basement room and bar available to hire for private functions. All in all, The Deaf Institute is absolutely worth a visit, for the day-time food as much as the nightly frivolities.
